Not That Kind of Burger
Do not let the cover photo of this post worry you, there are no meerkat burgers to be found here.
That meerkat’s name was Jack, so obviously I had to include him in this post.
Oh and also because this post is from the Los Angeles Zoo.
But famous Mr. Sandwichologist, why did you go to the zoo to write up a sandwich review?
I know you all thought that. The thing is, I went to the zoo for a fun day out and just happened to be really surprised by the sandwich I had, and definitely needed to tell you all about it.
Seriously, It’s Made From Beef
Before getting started on the Zoo adventure, I stopped in at Reggie’s Bistro, an eatery near the main entrance to the park. Now, correct me if I’m wrong zoo-goers, but after looking at the menu I was quickly surprised to see what I thought was an improved menu from my last visit over a year ago.
The burgers, at least in print, seemed to have stepped up their game. And so without much decision making I thought it best to go simple and get the Classic Dino Burger (not made with dinosaur meat).
An eight-ounce Angus beef patty, topped with American cheese, Reggie’s Special Sauce, lettuce and tomato on a buttery bun round out this sandwich.
And it really tasted good.
Like really enjoyably good.
Like something that would be at an actual burger shop outside of the zoo.
How Could It Taste So Good?
The Angus beef was cooked to medium, with a smooth savory flavor. The cheese, as you can see, fully melted so as to encompass the entire patty. The lettuce was crisp and the tomato was really flavorful compared to most I’ve had on sandwiches in the past.
So should you go for this sandwich?
I mean, it’s enjoyable for sure, and definitely a treat if you want something above theme park food at the Zoo, but heading there simply for this? No, not really.
But honestly, if you live in LA, you should give the Zoo a chance for a fun day out on a weekend if you can. It’s really well laid out, a lot of fun, and there’s plenty to see.
And of course, you can end your day there with this burger and a beer after taking in everything the place has to offer.
Until next week….
