Greetings, Readers!
You know, I started this blog because I wanted to be able to document my rising cholesterol during my wanderings across this planet. The goal was to find some of the most delicious sandwiches on Earth, and bring them to you.
I’ve done that, but the journey is not even a fraction of a percent complete.
My point is, that though I mostly tell you of places to visit, sometimes the best places to eat sandwiches are right in your very own home.
At least that way, no one can really judge you when you add French fries, pickles, and Sriracha to your ham sandwich if you damn well please to eat it that way.
Just you, the mirror, and the scale are the only ones that have to keep that secret.
New Sandwiches Delivered To Your Door?
So recently (and this is in no way paid for by this company) I started receiving Blue Apron at my home. You’ve probably seen the commercials on TV for it or its competitors.
For those that don’t know, for a membership fee, every week Blue Apron will ship you the components for three separate meals, each ingredients in its own perfectly portioned container.
I gotta say, so far a lot of the foods we’ve had have been pretty amazing, and then this week’s review came up.
Maryland-Style Cod Cake Sandwiches. Not crab cake, as would be expected for Maryland, but Cod.
After slightly cooking the cod, I added a spice blend consisting of a ground up bay leaf, ground celery seeds, mustard powder, ground black powder, ground nutmeg, ground cayenne pepper and ground cinnamon (a lot of ground spices indeed); altogether this is what they included as their Chesapeake Spice pack.
What’s surprising is the nutmeg and cinnamon. While the other spices give a little heat, a little pepper, and a bit of savory flavor, the nutmeg and cinnamon compliment them so well with their sweetish flavors.
I wasn’t too sure about those two spices at first, but they really kicked up the flavor of the sandwich quite a bit.
I won’t be adding whole sticks of cinnamon to fish sandwiches anytime soon, but it’s good to know that some of it can work.
The sandwich rounded off with a soft potato bun and tangy tartar sauce.
Reviewing…Myself?
And I gotta say, for something that showed up on my doorstep in ice packs, this sandwich was top notch.
I mean, I also made it myself, so what did we expect?
The spice combination with the buttery and flaky cod proved to be a winning combination. Luckily each meal comes with a recipe card so that I can recreate this, because as for summer sandwiches, this one is a true winner.
Again, no compensation here, but if Blue Apron (or its competitors) seem like fun to you then definitely give them a try.
Like this blog gave me incentive to seek out my favorite sandwiches across the planet, maybe this service will open your eyes to food you never could have imagined otherwise.
Until next week, Readers!
