All’s Faire In Love And Sandwiches
Greetings, Readers!
You ever feel like you just have to get away every so often? Like away from the city, from technology, even from our time period?
Well if this is the case, thankfully there’s an event like the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, California (though there are plenty of renfaires across the country as well).
Also thankfully, the Renaissance period had delicious sandwiches available like pulled pork sliders and sausages covered in sauerkraut.
Or maybe places like this take a few liberties.
A Trip Into The Past….Sort Of
Regardless, for those that have never been, a Renaissance Faire is set up like a village that is filled with elves, steampunks, knights, wizards, pirates and the like.
The streets are lined with shops by local artisans selling medieval weaponry, clothing and much more. Gaming stalls abound and of course, the food court is dead center of the faire.
The most popular item to get is the giant turkey leg which you see numerous people walking around with. It’s a definitely attractive food item to go for, and how cool will you feel walking around with people dressed as barbarians eating just like they actually might have in real life.
But time period and real life be damned, this is a sandwich blog.
A Timeless Meal
Sure, the two sandwiches were tasty and enjoyable. They also allowed a little break in the madness to kickback and people watch for twenty minutes and relax before moving onto seeing the joust.
Would I recommend getting either of these sandwiches?
Absolutely.
The sausage was made of pork, incredibly flavorful and had that great grilled flavor accompanied by the trademark grill patterns. The sauerkraut gave it a tart and sour kick in the mouth.
The sliders, for being small, were packed with barbecue pulled pork. The meat was tasty even without the barbecue sauce, which added a deliciously tangy flavor with a smoky punch.
Now I’m not going to knock the bread here, but of course they didn’t really hold together for the entire meal (which was shared). It’s fair food after all, we can’t exactly expect greatness here.
But if you’ve been reading this blog long enough you know how I am about summer food: hot dogs, burgers, barbecue, sausages, any of those and I’m pretty happy.
The Faire ends this coming weekend, and if you can’t make it out then definitely add it to your calendar for next year. Not only will you have fun, and enjoy people watching, but you can always relax and refresh with a massive sandwich that even tastes delicious.
Until next week, Readers…
