With our little Autumn-tease out of the way here in Los Angeles, we are about to be reminded that summer weather is not quite done with the Southland. So why fight the urge to shift to fall foods when we can still enjoy a summer classic: The burger.
Heading back from a recent trip to Palm Springs, I stopped into a place that has been sitting on my “to visit” list for some time: The Kings Row Gastropub in Pasadena.
As you can see in the photos, the draught beer list is impressive, hosting a number of local greats and offerings which I hadn’t tried before from breweries such as Mumford and Phantom Carriage.
Settling in with a tart Strawberry Broadacres from Phantom Carriage, and taking a seat in the outdoor space I awaited by sandwich, the aptly named Classic Burger.
With some Boulder Colorado sourced beef, house-made american cheese, red onion, house-made pickles, tomato, and 1000 Island dressing on a sesame seed brioche bun. It’s also cooked to medium as a standard, so if you’re the type who likes it well-done, just suck it up and eat it like this.
Because medium at most is the best way to eat a burger.
Yeah, I know, less than that and it starts to get pinker and sometimes even red, but so much flavor is cooked off when you head towards the deep end of grilling hell.
The vegetables in this give the sandwich a great crunchy aspect, especially with those red onions and pickles, which offset the softness of the brioche bun.
My Kingdom for a Burger!
The burger itself though? Delicious.
At a medium grilling, there’s a lot of juices that flow forth with each bite, leaving your hands a little messy, best cleaned with your mouth. The two patties are coated with a layer of their American Cheese, with a slice in between each, providing a lot of gooey deliciousness.
The fries were great too: crisp outside, warm and soft interior. Combined with this burger and an excellent local craft beer and you have yourself an afternoon enjoying the sun-filled patio or inside with football overload.
Located on Colorado Boulevard in downtown Pasadena, there’s plenty to do and see, or spend an afternoon of shopping in this quaint town. When you’re tired from an afternoon of excitement, you need a great place to kick back and enjoy a beer and a burger, so definitely make sure to spend your next free Sunday afternoon at Kings Row Gastropub and you’ll instantly know you made the right decision.
